Base station is not storing local recordings all of a sudden, I tried everything, resetting the base station, resetting the usb drive but nothing.

i have read other posts that the base station might need a software update.

Hardware is VMB4540.

is this another way of telling the customers to use the subscription plan instead, this is very frustrating.

Try ejecting the storage using the app, and then connect it to a PC and look for recordings.  

 

That will let you know whether you have a recording problem, or whether you instead have a playback problem.

There are no issues with the usb,

I already checked the usb device and it’s a 256 gb drive with available capacity of approximately 240 gb, since I have my settings on “automatically delete old recordings” I can access the recordings in my computer.

It’s a playback problem, I have ready many posts on the community having similar issues and there was a software update provided by Arlo that fixed the issue.

This is not the same issue, since the VMB4000 doesn't have any support for playback.

What’s the IO error then? why isn’t the recordings being saved, and even the format usb is greyed out.

This says you have a recording problem (not a playback problem as you said before).

 

How did you test the USB drive?  

Is this a flash drive?  Or a traditional hard drive or SSD?

I connected it to the laptop, I see saved recordings in the laptop.

its a usb flash drive, the same one I have been using for an year. This issue just started 2 days ago.

Did you try to write to the drive?  

Or do any more extensive testing (copying the drive contents to the PC for instance)?

Is this occurring on iOS or Android? Which version of the Arlo app are you using?

I got the same problem recently when I tried to check the recorded videos in my local storage from Base station as usual.  I tried everything to solve the problem, but none of them work.  And I finally found a totally ridiculous "UPGRADE" of Arlo's app, that seems removed the function of downloading recorded videos from Base station to the device with Arlo app.  Arlo requires users to disconnect the storage from Base station, and reconnect it to PC to get the playbacks!!!

I bought the Base station for the playback function when I am not at home without joining their service plans, but now Arlo disabled that function to FORCE users to join their plan!!!!

What base station did you buy?  There are only two with playback - the VMB4540 and the VMB5000.  VMB4000 and VMB4500 have never had playback features.  That is nothing new, that has always been the case. 

 

But many folks enjoying the free 7-day cloud storage mistakenly thought their recordings were stored in the base, when they were actually stored in the cloud.

I m using vmb 4540 for several years. And Arlo disabled the function to select 'cloud' or 'local storage' from their app.  Users are not able to playback unless disconnecting the storage device from vmb 4540, and then plug it into a PC

I see Cloud/Local in my app.

 

If you see "Feed" and "Dashboard" in your app menu:

 

Have you tried

  • going to "Devices"
  • pressing the smarthub tile
  • select "Storage Settings"

These are the captured screen in my Sony Xperia 1 iv.  there is no longer a selection for me to choose "Cloud" or " Local Storage".

They are trying to force people to subscribe but they are actually losing customers. We bought these cameras and base station knowing we did not need a subscription . They lost me as a customer. Why isn’t the moderator helping? They will not even let me reach out to support.

They said they are not forcing people to subscribe in other posts they replied.  But the app is not allowing people to choose "Local storage"
They said their latest app version is 6.0.2, but the most updated from google play is still 6.0.0..... and this version could only connect to cloud, not option to connect local storage for playback.

I am not doubting that.

 

Once again - when you first open the app and log in, are you seeing four controls along the bottom?  Or are you seeing five?
