Hi , I have the arlo wire free camera and did a firmware update after seeing a red triangle in settings. After update one camera came back fine but the other one went offline. I needed to take batteries out and sync it again. Now the camera is back but the battery level shows 1 bar whereas the other camera which was bought at the same time shows 5 bars. Has anyone faced similar issue? Any resolution? Is it just incorrectly displaying he battery level or did the firmware update eat it up

Hi. This has happened to quite a few of us. The only solution is to replace them.

Nah.  Start with the basics - open and close the battery doors.  While the door is open, pull the batteries out and use a voltmeter to check the voltage and verify if they're dead or not (2.75v +/- is dead).  Use fresh batteries to at least test operation.

There seems to have been recent battery notification issues, which implies a server-side issue.

Hi jguerdat

Indeed, this is a good point.

The reason I say replace them is that I have 4 cameras, and only one had the problem with the latest firmware update/dead battery. I then did the reset as you suggested, and the batteries had still died.   Looking at a few other posts, there does seem to have been a problem with the latest firmware updates.

Here we go again, another firmware update and new problems.  This is how the update went for me.

1- Red triangle of death show on all 10 cameras for a week with no updates coming down.  I saw 1 camera with low battery and I changed it hoping it would start the update.

2- Over the last few days 1 camera a day has updated itself over night.  Still some not updated.

3- Out of the 4 cameras that updated 3 are now reporting dead or near dead batteries.  They were fine before the update.

Is this the latest and greatest from Netgear?? Updates drain new batteries? Does anybody test this software before it goes out? Has Netgear teamed up with battery manufactures to rip us off? Bring back the options to "NOT ACCEPT" your garbage updates.

Suddenly all of my battery levels are showing the batteries as full.  That was not the case in the recent past.  The batteries have been installed for several months.  Prior to this change, one of the 5 cameras I have was showing one bar.  The other 4 cameras were showing less than full status.  The charge level on an iPhone or iPad has never agreed with the charge level shown on my iMac.  Prior to the latest change they always correlated, but never showed the same level.  I do not remember updating my camera or base station.  Does that happen automatically?  Does anyone know what is going on?

rayjay8492,

Camera and base station updates are automatic and occur overnight when an update is released.

Are your batteries still showing unexpected levels? If not, consider opening and closing the battery compartment door to reboot the camera.

The batteries in the units used to last over a week and I now have to charge them daily to get only minutes to a few hours of charge out of even new batteries. Can someone at Netgear please contact me about this issue? I see lots of user posts about the same issue with no responses from Netgear anywhere. We all paid a lot of money for these systems and if they dont work we shoukd be at least offered solutions or get full full refunds for defective hardware. I've spent almost as much as the cost of the system for new batteries and always get the same results. I'm getting full strength signal from the base station and the batteries show full charge when removed from the charger and drain within minutes to the lowest charge orange reading on the app. This is absolutely ridiiculous! I bought brand new batteries last week and still having the same issues a week later.

hscalum,

NETGEAR does not recommend the use of rechargeable batteries. For more information on suggested battery usage and handling, see here: Remember these golden rules for your Arlo camera batteries and BATTERY WARNINGS AND SAFETY

If your batteries are draining that quickly, there could be a hardware issue. I encourage you to contact the Arlo Support Team for further investigation. You will find several options for contacting support in the provided link. If you have any additional questions/concerns feel free to private message me. I would be happy to help.

What batteries are you using?

I would recommend Duracell. I have been delighted with mine overall, as they are still showing a full charge 5 months later, other than the one time when the update went wrong. Admittedly they are only used for say 30 to 60 seconds a day.

Im using OLIGHT 3.7V 650mAh rechargeable batteryes. They last 4-5 months 5-10 min a day rec time. Arlo update is the biggest crap i have seen. Still not updating.
