wired video doorbell avd1001 haven't got it to work

I have recently purchased a wired video doorbell and chime2 (plug in) but haven't got it to work yet. Do I have to buy a smart hub or something else now?  For the record I have removed the old 8v transformer and chime box. The new doorbell is now wired from the 24v din rail transformer as supplied.

Hi StephenB,  Followed all your advice and I am pleased to say I am up and running with doorbell and chime (with wpa2 intact) and paired with my wife's phone! all thanks to you. Given that there seems to be pros and cons for dual Ghz ratings on the router I may leave that for a while and see how it goes from here. I have also found a solution to the doorbell camera angle on the mounting plate...............move the car,  Once again thanks for all your help

Are you getting part way through the onboarding process?  

Where exactly is it failing?

Hi Stephen (guru) thanks for your quick response. I have no video connection between my phone or sound to the chime2. I was confused by the downloaded instructions for a "wired" video doorbell ( I assumed this meant the original chime as well)  so I have tried "wireless" instead and have failed right from the start. I should add that I am sixty five and can do all the manual stuff but not too sharp on the clever stuff. Thanks in advance for any help and advice

If you have the AVD1001, then you have to select the wired doorbell when you onboard it in the app.  You can ignore the chime2 for now, and just focus on getting the doorbell to function.

Thanks StephenB, I'll try doing that and let you know how I get on. I will reset all the stuff I did and start again.

Hi StephenB, Following on from our last conversation I reset the video doorbell and chime2 (which I have removed from the wall socket). I followed all the "wired" instructions up to the QR code being displayed on my phone and held it 4" in front of the doorbell and bingo I got the ring chimed response from the doorbell, it then said "looking for  Arlo video doorbell" then eight minutes later said "no doorbells were found". This has happened twice. I must be missing something! any ideas?

If your router has both 2.4 ghz wifi and 5 ghz wifi, then try disabling 5 ghz and attempt the onboarding again.  Most routers will let you do that (from their web admin screens).

 

Also, make sure the wifi security is set to WPA2 (AES)

Hi StephenB,  EUREKA! I did as you suggested and disabled the 5ghz (and keeping WAP2) which now works, Q1. Is it ok to reinstate 5ghz now phone and doorbell are talking to each other? Q2. My phone has now accepted the QR code on the chime and it says the chime is now active but when the doorbell is pressed there is no light on the chime and no sound either Mmmmmmmmmmm. Q3. If I wish to put on the angled plate on the doorbell will I have to reinstall after disconnecting the wires or does it carry a short memory (like myself). Thanks, you've been brilliant

Did you pair the chime with the doorbell?

While the doorbell should reconnect on its own, you might find that you need to go through onboarding again.
