camm,
To receive push notifications your mobile device must remain logged in to the Arlo mobile app. Is the app being force closed or logged out?

I was going to buy the Arlo cameras but glad I didn’t if this is how they “don’t” work!

camm,
This sounds like a battery saving application or setting on your mobile device is putting the Arlo app to sleep when idle. Check your phone settings and make sure if you do have a battery saving feature enabled, the Arlo mobile app is set as an exception.

How is that configured in an iPhone? The only way to fix is if I reset network settings. It works for a few hours then stops again... I always get email alerts though?
Also if someone rings the doorbell the video never shows and the app just freezes... I am ready to throw it in the bin to be honest.

Enabling Arlo in Settings->General->Background App Refresh might help.
But I think you will still run into issues if you let the phone switch into low battery mode.

No solution but mine started doing the same thing mid October. It tells me I have a notification but doesn't show anything. It shows the cameras but not the doorbell.
Does the doorbell have a subscription?

No it doesn't. But I don't have a subscription for my cameras and everything is fine with those.
All new cameras (starting with the Ultra in 2018) need a subscription for cloud storage.
If you don't have a subscription, then you will receive notifications, but you won't see any stored video. https://kb.arlo.com/000062312/What-options-will-I-have-when-the-Arlo-trial-ends

I don't know if it is the Arlo software or the update to the latest iOS or a combination but I was having issues with a lot of notifications. I ended up restarting my phone and they started working. Every now and then notifications for Arlo stop working but I just restart my phone now...

No worries. When I don't receive notifications I just restart my phone now... annoying but definitely sounds like an iOS and or app issue?

No one ever said you had to be in the app to get notifications. You DO have to remain logged in. Force closing/swiping the app away/logging out will cause this. Simply go home or to another app so the Arlo app is backgrounded, not logged out.

I was in the app, walked in front of the camera, looked at devices, saw a new event was captured, no notification on my phone. Trash coding imho. They have to have some kind of issue on the backend that manages push subscriptions because it works soon after install, then stops. Could be a client issue, but my guess is backend. Regardless, got the ring pro 2 and it works like a champ, no regrets.
