Hi everyone,
I’ve been having a frustrating issue with my first edition wired Arlo doorbell, and I’m hoping someone here can help or confirm if this is a known problem.
Here’s what’s going on:
I have two brand-new first edition Arlo wired doorbells. One was installed and working flawlessly for over a year.
Suddenly, the original doorbell froze during use. After resetting it and reconnecting everything, the problem started.
Now, the live view preview in the Arlo app and on the PC dashboard stays crystal clear for about 8 seconds, then it becomes totally pixelated and unusable.
Despite this, the recorded videos are always perfect with full HD, no pixelation, day or night.
I swapped out the original doorbell for a brand-new identical unit, but the exact same live view pixelation issue happens.
I’ve tried viewing the live stream on multiple devices, including a brand-new iPhone 16 Pro Max and PC, and it happens everywhere.
I tested the live view while connected to my home Wi-Fi and also on cellular 5G data with Wi-Fi turned off on my phone with the same pixelation after 8 seconds on both networks.
Transformer voltage was tested and within range.
I factory reset the doorbell multiple times and re-added it to the Arlo app, but no improvement.
I also tried different Wi-Fi settings, router checks, and app reinstallations with no luck
Has anyone else seen this live view pixelation after about 8 seconds with recordings remaining perfect?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, I am still experiencing this problem, and the brand new unopened identical doorbell I installed has the same exact issue.

@Freestyle22 Is it possible to pinpoint when you first started experiencing this pixelation symptom?
Can you check for a firmware update for version: 1.21.1.0_16
This version is in a slow release phase, I want to see if this helps with the pixelation at all.

I had the camera for a year running flawlessly, bought in Oct of 23, then in late 24 the camera and app just froze. I couldn't restart, something glitched out. So I removed the doorbell from the app, reseated the wires to make sure they were on tight and the problem started from that day on. Crystal clear live view for 8 seconds then complete pixelation that pulses about every 2 to 3 seconds. My app firmware says 1.20.1.0_3_3814168_06 and when i hit the button it says no updates available.
