I understand that recording will be there for 7 days and then automatically deleted if we dot have subscription.

Older cameras (Pro 2 and older) have the free 7 day plan. Anything newer requires a subscription for cloud recordings. Your base can record locally without a sub but you'd have to safely eject the drive to view on a computer - hardly useful for anything other than a backup.
Likely you solution is a single camera sub for the doorbell.

Have same experience: after 90 day trial, motion at doorbell causes an alert but no recording available via the iPhone ARLO app. The poster is correct: if a thumb drive is in the hub, one can remove and view on a computer. Not practical when the cameras work but doorbell (motion detection) does not. And ARLO will not provide service to tell us what settings to change to allow recording. Poor PR.

The newer smarthubs allow you to see recordings in the app - Arlo has provided information on that here: https://kb.arlo.com/000062337/What-is-Direct-Storage-Access-and-how-do-I-use-it
Older bases (VMB4500 and earlier) don't have the direct storage access feature.
