Jeez, doesn't record when button is pressed. Time to move to Ring doorbell, functionality is way better.

May I ask which troubleshooting steps you have performed so far? I don't want to suggest anything you have previously performed.

It won't record when the doorbell is pressed, but it will record when it detects someone approaching the doorbell.

ShayneS,
What is to troubleshoot? Are you suggesting that the Arlo Doorbell SHOULD record when the doorbell button is pressed?
Everything I've read, it isn't designed that way, so troubleshooting is a waste of time.
I double checked the doorbell settings, I don't see a way to enable recording when the doorbell button is pressed. If there is a way, be great to know the secret... I didn't see that posted anywhere on this thread.

As @StephenB mentioned, the doorbell will detect motion if enabled before the button is pressed, this is by design. The doorbell will not initiate a recording when the button is pressed. I would suggest leaving the motion detection on for recordings and turning the sensitivity down to avoid any unwanted triggers, this will allow the camera to capture movement at your door when the button is pressed.

Having just found this forum after searching for this exact subject, I do have to respectfully point out that Arlo are seriously behind the game not having this feature available. Not all of us can have the motion detection setting turned on for various reasons. Surely it must be possible for Arlo to come with a firmware update that will allow recording only when the doorbell is pressed?! I heavily rely on my video doorbell feature, but sometimes as may be the case, I occasionally miss a call and knowing who visited would be very helpful. In this modern age of technology I would expect that feature to be standard.

This is even worse than that. I have detection enabled and it doesn't detect when someone is in front of the ring bell and press it. On the other hand, when at 2am a squirrel pass by, then the motion detection works.. very unreliable....

The door bell is definitely a waste of money.
It is the number 1 most important time you want it to record is when someone presses the button.
I do love your cameras but for a door bell just buy the competitors product.

Hi #ShayneS,
I tried all I could think of:
- reset
- reconnect
- change wifi
- increase internet bandwidth (300Mb/s download, 50Mb/s download)
- reinstall the app, keep it up to date
Any other idea is welcome.
I m very disappointed and each time I get a new delivery and can't interact with the delivery man, I get more frustrated.

But you do receive motion recordings from this doorbell correct? Are you receiving any notifications for the motion?

You can definitely try and assist. When someone presses the door bell it doesn’t record who was it that pressed the door bell.
I can’t set it up to record all the time because it would get completely full from people coming and going all the time that in return destroys the battery.

#ShayneS,
I do get recordings and notifications.
Two main issues are:
- the camera doesn't record each time (ex: doesn't always record when someone get very close and drop a package)
- when someone press the button, I get the notification. When I accept the call, I can see the person, but there is a huge delay in my voice to be heard by the person. I speak, the person do not hear anything and they leave. Then I can hear my voice via the video.

Is hardwiring the camera a possibility? that would eliminate the use of the battery depleting. You can try creating Activity zones/Smart notifications so you aren't alerted by people.
You can try lowering your sensitivity to zero and work your way up gradually to capture motion in front of the camera versus a larger distance.

Hi #ShayneS,
Over WiFi the delay is about 4 seconds. It is about 25 secondes over mobile data.
What is the bandwidth requirement for the Arlo ringbell?

I have attached an article with the complete requirements below. The mobile data/carrier seems to be a limiting factor. Did this delay occur on mobile data previously as well?
