Hey there,
yes it is May 2023 and nothing changed.
Still ARLO CHIME 2 HAS THE SAME BUG, WON'T CONNECT TO THE NETWORK.
I even could not come to the point of asking my network credential. It gives me an error when I try to connect Arlo_9781 network.
"Unable to join Arlo_9781"
and then gives me some stupid advices to check if local permissons given bla bla...
How did you pass this step? any idea?
I tried this , nope did not work.

You must connect to the temporary WiFi connection to the doorbell in order to give it the SSID and password needed to connect to your home WiFi. Without that step you will never be able to get the doorbell to connect. The issue likely is a setting in your phone that's disallowing the connection to occur (perhaps something about connecting to unknown open WiFi).

I have the same issue. Worst experience of any tech device I’ve tried to connect to my wifi. I tried all the same steps.
And this is after trying three devices to scan the very small QR code!

I removed my Chime 2 from my account and added it back in. There was no temporary WiFi to connect to, just a prompt for my home 2.4GHz SSID and password. I suppose there's something set in the phone settings (Android) that allows the automatic connection but I don't recall specifically setting that and a quick look in the phone settings doesn't find anything. I do see the comment in the last link about the temporary network so it may appear that something here has changed.
I can't find an online manual for the chime - do you have the quick guide that came with the chime? What are the directions to set it up? Pics of the guide might be useful.

Had same issue. I have assus router that use same Wifi network name for 2.4 and 5 GHz networks. I was forced to set to use only 2.4 GHz and that alllows to connect Chime 2 to network without any problems.
