Purchased wired doorbell in Jan ‘22 and I’m seeing the plastic around the sensor appear to be deteriorating now. Is this normal and expected?

Nope. Use the app to go to Settings, Support. Select the doorbell and scroll down to Contacts to see what official support may provide.
