I ran my wired video doorbell through its paces, and there are things I really like about Arlo. The app, the video quality, and the audio was pretty good (only about a 1-2sec delay).

I really want to love it, and I can't (yet)...

The range on this thing is like... 8ft max. Someone is pretty much on the doorstep when the doorbell picks up the motion. Because of this, it feels like the notifications are quite delayed (6-12sec).

Arlo says the range is 13 ft (4m). I'm not seeing that. And to be honest, I wish it was more (my Ring used to pick up cars from the street before I added detection zones.)

Anyone else experience the same - or is it just me?

Have you tried increasing the motion sensitivity in the doorbell settings under Default Mode Settings?

FWIW, it appears that Arlo has backed off on the detection range (maybe with firmware updates but certainly as newer doorbells have been introduced) due to false triggers from, say, the street. I used to use activity zones but no longer do. My recordings using a AVD2001 wireless doorbell are at the steps of the porch so 8-10 feet although that's when recording begins, not truly when detection is made (due to lag of the cloud-based nature). If I miss anything, it's usually due to Amazon throwing a package onto the porch rather than placing it.

Yeah. I maxed it out on Day 1. Didn't make much of a difference, unfortunately.

I'm trying to convince myself that the short range isn't a bad thing. I'm up in the air if I will go back to Ring. Aside from having a more sensitive motion detection and quicker notification time, I like the snapshots it takes every minute or so for a timeline between motion. This has proved helpful from a security level when my neighbors have asked about suspicious vehicles.

As it stands, the Arlo doorbell isn't very security focused, and more like a tool just to know who is directly at my door.
