Doorbell/smarthub compatibility

Just getting started with home security in my apartment, figured a doorbell camera would be the place to start. I’m not interested in a subscription to store videos, so I wanted a smart hub to pop a usb into. According to their website, only the 1st gen essentials doorbell is compatible, does anyone know if the newer 2k one will ever be compatible with the hub?

Arlo says they will add this feature, but they haven't said when.  

FWIW, I don't recommend buying any electronics that is missing a feature that I need.  So I'd hold off on the gen 2 cameras until after Arlo rolls out hub support.
