1/ How often does the battery need to be re-charged for a doorbell installed in a

private home with low activity at the front door?

2/ Do we have to buy the Chime 2 accessory to hear the doorbell ring

when the mobile phone is not nearby?

1) I haven't tracked exact battery life but mine is at least 2 months, perhaps more.

2) No, you don't need the chime for the phone to get the doorbell press notifications. The chime would simply be useful if you don't have a traditional chime connected when at home.
