Hey guys, just need a little bit of input on where the best place would be to mount my second generation wireless/wired doorbell camera.

Right now, I currently have the doorbell camera installed about 4 feet up on the right side of my front door being that I figured that was the best placement because it actually covers everything in that location but the problem is, in order to hook the existing doorbell wires up to the camera, I would have to somehow make the doorbell wire longer and run it up, over and then back down to the right side of my front door being that because my front door opens into the home to the right, on the left side of the door is where the original doorbell button was and the other problem is, being that the end of the front porch is only about 12, 14 inches to the left of the front door, there was already a solid glass or solid screen door mounted that opened out and to the left of the front door so, I could go ahead and put the camera on the left side, but if somebody were to open the screen door, they wouldn’t be able to access the doorbell button on the camera. They would still be seen because it’s a solid top to bottom glass panel.

Any ideas? I guess it wouldn’t be too bad running the doorbell wires to the right side of the door but it would be kind of time consuming because the only way that I can think of to do it would be to take my oscillating saw and try to cut out a little trench for lack of better words and then after securing the wire, fill the hole in with wood putty and then just simply repaint it but that seems like a lot of work that I’m not so sure would be worth it to do….

corneileous,

It's difficult to make a suggestion based on the description you've provided here but I encourage you to take a look at this article that suggests positioning tips for best performance as it may be helpful in providing you with information about whether or not the customization you've described would be worth the time investment: https://kb.arlo.com/000062493/How-should-I-position-my-Arlo-Essential-Video-Doorbell-Wire-Free

I appreciate your response but yesterday evening I just decided the best thing to do was connect a wire from where my existing doorbell wire comes out on the left side of the door and run that up over the door to the right side and hook it up that way.

I could’ve probably just put my doorbell camera right over the top of the hole on the left side of the door where the doorbell button used to be and as long as nobody who came to the door tried to open the storm door first, it wouldn’t have been a problem but since I can’t guarantee that and if they did, they would be able to access the button on the camera because the door would’ve been in the way.
