Hello

I have added a smarthub. To connect the wireless doorbell (2nd Gen) and  essential XL outdoor. Do I switch network to smarthub.

This is not the primary residence so I want to be able to access locally stored footage from another network at primary home. Is this achieved through VPN and/or configure a router port??

I currently have the 30-day cloud trial so I want to make sure I have a local solution as I will need the remote access without necessarily an ongoing subscription.

Thanks for any advice.

To use local recordings for any camera, that camera must be removed from your WiFi and reconnected to the hub. Only videos passing through the hub will be recorded on its drive used for local recordings.

To view local recordings remotely, you must use either a router-based VPN (available on many but not all routers) or configure the router for port forwarding as directed by enabling port forwarding in the hub's settings. Here's an FAQ that should help:

The VPN, if available, is the better solution but port forwarding may be simpler.

Thank you that seems pretty clear. I will need to check rougher settings re the port forwarding next time I’m at the house.

supplementary question. I presume the chime 2 associated with the video doorbell stays on the original network? Got a chime installed for when the builders are in and accepting deliveries?

Yup, the chime only connects to your WiFi so it has to remain there.
