Hello everyone,
I just bought a Doorbell 2K (2nd Gen), primarily because of the 2K resolution. I was completely surprised to discover that there’s no replaceable battery. This was possible with my first doorbell. Why is that the case? I’m still completely baffled and unsure whether I should return it. What’s the idea behind this design? Am I supposed to take down my doorbell, charge it, and leave the door without one in the meantime?
I’d really appreciate a statement on this. @JamesC

Is there wiring in place for your traditional doorbell at that location? The doorbell will trickle-charge the battery if it is connected to a low-voltage AC circuit (8-24 volts).

Unfortunately, no. The traditional doorbell is in a poor location where the camera would not be positioned effectively.

Mikkiblueeyes,
Yes. 2nd Generation Video Doorbells need to be removed from the mount to be charged. Alternatively, you can hardwire the doorbell as described above, this allows the doorbell to maintain a trickle charge preventing the battery from entirely depleting.

“Goodbye, 2nd Gen”
(A Sad Song for the Doorbell)
[Verse 1]
Oh, my faithful friend, hanging by the door,
You’ve watched the world pass by, but now there’s something more.
Your battery’s fading, the charge won’t last,
And now I have to unmount you—oh, the time’s gone so fast.
[Chorus]
I have to take you down, my 2nd Gen,
You’ve been my guard, my light, my friend.
Unless I hardwire, there’s no other way,
But removing you breaks my heart today.
[Verse 2]
Every time the chime rang, you were there for me,
From packages to strangers, you helped me see.
But now your power’s low, your glow is dim,
And I must remove you—oh, the chances are slim.
[Chorus]
I have to take you down, my 2nd Gen,
You’ve been my guard, my light, my friend.
Unless I hardwire, there’s no other way,
But removing you breaks my heart today.
[Bridge]
If I could give you a trickle of life,
A hardwired charge to end this strife,
You could stay right here, never leave,
But for now, I grieve, oh, I grieve.
[Outro]
So I’ll unscrew you gently, lay you down with care,
Charge you up, then place you back where you belong, I swear.
2nd Gen, it’s not goodbye, it’s just a pause, you see,
You’ll always be the one who watches over me.
