Hi,

I just bought a Arlo doorbell gen2 and would like to connect it to the power, because the batterie only lasts around 1 month.

Which Transformator should I buy for it?

Thanks,

Julio

I believe that's specified in the app and/or doorbell package. The product page on Arlo.com says this in the FAQs:

The doorbell requires a voltage between 8-24V AC to ring your chime and trickle charge your doorbell. For more information, visit: How do I install, mount, and hardwire my Arlo Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) using my existing door... .

Do you already have doorbell wiring at the spot where the doorbell is installed?

If you do, then I suggest figuring out what already is in place.  If there was a chime that was disconnected, then you might already have a compatible transformer on the circuit.  Even if that is not the case, it is convenient to re-use the wiring if you can.

If not, then you need to decide whether you are going to hardwire the transformer, or whether you want a plug-in power adapter.

Yes, i do have a doorbell and it uses a 12VAC with max 18VA somit should work. I connected the Arlo Doorbell to the chime as discribed and actually it works now. So my old chime ring when i ring the Arlo Doorbell.

What i see though, is that the Arlo Doorbell is not charging. The connection is right, because my old chime works, but somehow it is not charging. I am guessing it should be showing the “power” sign in the app but it doesnt. Any ideaa on why? The transformator y the right one so…

Gen 2 don't charge continuously, they start charging when the battery drops below a threshold.

So maybe wait a while, and see if the doorbell does charge when the battery level drops,

Oh that‘s good to know. I will try to drain down the battery and see if it the starts charging. Shouldnt this kinda details be mentioned somewhere on the Website? Otherwise how would one know if it is connected properly, if no digital/analog chime is available?

Yeah, I agree there should a KB article that talks about this (and gives details on the thresholds).

I'm tagging @JamesC so he can pass on that suggestion.

So I drained the battery to 70% and it suddenly started charging so the connection does work as is. The only worrying thing is that it charged up to 73% only and then stopped. So it seems the battery will remain between 70% and 73% forever? So it will get charged everyday basically. Not sure this is the best for the battery life and in general efficiency but time will tell. Thanks for the hints @StephenB
