I tried a 64 GB ScanDisk Extreme U1 mini SD Card in my VMB5000 base.

The VMB5000 hub shows the SD Card requires formatting.  Using the website access, under menu item "SmartHub Settings\Local Storage" I can click the "Format SD Card" (coloured red) and it brings up a warning about all data on the disk being erased if I proceed.  I click to proceed and then ...... zip happens - absolutely nothing!

I subsequently formatted the SC Card using windows 11 to FAT32.  Same result.

I then formatted the card using my Nikon camera.  Same result.

I went a bought a brand new 256GB u3 V30 200 mb/s Scandisk Extreme Pro (based of others on this forum reporting that 256GB worked, while some reported the larger 400GB card failed).

The new 256GB card gives me the same result.  Hub keeps reporting the card requires formatting, while the format command does nothing other than give me a warning about data loss.  This remains the case even when i format the card in my PC.

Any tips on why this is happening would be appreciated (I am ready to through the lot in the bin!).

Regards

It kinda sounds like the hub has an issue although it still could be the cards themselves for some reason. I don't have W11 so have to ask the question about the ability to format the card to FAT32 - W10 certainly won't without a 3rd party program. The Nikon camera could also be an issue depending on how new it is (my older Canon cameras used FAT32 but my R5 uses exFAT). All that, of course, doesn't help with the hub not formatting.

Maybe a possibility - using W11, check to see how many partitions are on the cards. If more than one, delete all partitions and try formatting again.

Thanks for your reply.

Inspired by your note, I re-formatted the 256GB card this morning using "guiformat.exe" (a 3rd party app) to FAT32.

VMB5000 now recognises the card and records on it!

The VMB5000 format button still has no effect, which seems a glitch on Arlo's part.

(And for completeness my 8 year old D750 camera formatted to exFAT32 - which is why it did not work either).

Thanks.
