I would like to know what the differences are between the different revisions of hardware of the VMB5000.

I have both r4 and r6 and would like to know if there the r6 is better due to higher revision of hardware.

Should I change/upgrade my r4 to r6?

I have Video Doorbell/Pro2/Ultra/Ultra2 connected to the hubs.

AFAIK, All hardware revisions have the same specs - so no need to purchase new bases.

Hardware revisions are generally due to parts availability or doing some cost reduction.

Ok.

Thanks!

So the Arlo Ultra 2 - extended range is built in the cameras  - not the hub?

I assumed (wrongly then) that it might be a combination of hardware updates in both camera and hub that resulted in the extended range.

Yes - but hopefully @JamesC will confirm.

Note the max range is spec'd at 300 feet for both the ultra 2 and the ultra - so the improvement is in the practical range, not the max line-of-sight.  I don't own an Ultra 2,  so I don't have any first-hand experience.
