Arlo says 7-10 feet.  Personally mine are mostly 5-8 feet (depending on what I am aiming them at).  Cameras covering my doors are about 7-8 feet, cameras covering my driveway and yard are lower.  I do that because I do need to recharge them from time to time, and want to be able to safely reach them even in winter.

Mine are at 8 feet and much higher (Pro 2 and Ultra 1st gen). However, regardless of how high they are and what area they focus on, as well as whether the movement occurs from side to side or in the centre of the recording area, they sometimes miss events or not record them in their entirety.

That could be due to the extra distance caused by the height the cameras are mounted. The distance, as I'm sure you know, is from the camera to the subject, not the ground-level distance. I suppose that the motion detection (side-to-side) could be affected by the height since the "pie slices" used by the PIR sensors get wider with distance..
