sd card recording and access

can anyone tell me how to get the sd card to work correctly for the ultra system? the card is visible to the base station. on my phone there is a drop drown to the cloud or the card . when i go to the card i only see blank boxes until i click on it then i see the preview . Arlo said this is normal . is that correct ? i am trying to get rid of the cloud but this system isn't set up good enough for the sd card access. and when i am out of the house i cant see the sd card at all . i am not able to see the sd card on my laptop . its like they make you keep the cloud even though you can use an sd card

Yes.  Limitations of direct access to local storage are

1. recordings can only be viewed from the app (not my.arlo.com)
2. recordings can only be viewed from the primary account (not friend accounts)
3. no ability to make manual recordings or save snapshorts
4. no thumbnails
5. remote access can be difficult to set up.

The blank boxes are item (4).  You need to download the file in order to get any idea of what it is in it.

so they really force you to keep the cloud access .   but even with that you cant view the videos on the laptop without downloading them first .  are all these camera systems like this?  I thought the technology was better than this
