Very disappointed to learn that the only way I can view videos stored locally on the Arlo base station is for the mobile device to be connected to the same network. This means that if I am away from home and movement is detected on the camera or doorbell, I cannot check the activity. The only way I CAN view is with a subscription. Of course a subscription is not very expensive, but to deny customers the choice seems to me to be less than honest: I spent £600+ on three cameras, a doorbell and a base station, I expect to have the option of being able to monitor camera and doorbell activity remotely, even without an Arlo cloud subscription. I can accept the loss of some functionalities: without a cloud subscription, I can’t set up zones and the camera does not differentiate between an animal, vehicle or person. But the whole point of having a security system is to be able to monitor activity remotely. Being unable to do so without a subscription - unless one is already at home - seems to me to defeat at least half the object of the exercise.

Did you check out the options for remote viewing of local recordings? Go to your hub settings and then to Storage Settings for using a VPN or port forwarding. It's been there all along.

Yes, but being a gen-x’er, I don’t have the know how or knowledge of systems to understand what either involves without doing quite a bit more reading. Given your systems are not the cheapest, and given that you also OFFER the option of storing videos locally, you really ought to consider providing better advice on remote access options.

This is a user-to-user forum.  Neither @jguerdat nor I work for Arlo - so NOT our systems.

FWIW, I do think Arlo should have implemented a better and seemless solution for this.

Port forwarding in your router isn't all that difficult.  If you provide your router manufacturer and model, I can see if I can find a manual and point you to the right section.

FWIW, I'm a boomer, so I don't view being Gen-X as much of an excuse.
