Just got a ping for a software upgrade and now there is no way for me to access my recorded videos unless I purchase a subscription…..is this a new strategy by Arlo? Say I can’t reverse the update either.

Go to the devices pages, and select the base station. Then go into storage settings. You'll find your local recordings there.
