Hey team,
So since my other post about the device unreachable was closed ( as it was recently fixed)
I thought I would start a new topic that's popped up since the fix was implemented.
Ever since that device not reachable error was fixed I've lost 4k live view and it's very pixalated....
However all detections in my feed show they are 4k and are not pixelated
So I think the team broke something when you fixed the error today.
Things I've tried:
- Restarting the smart hub
- Toggling 4k mode off and on for each camera
- Powering off the smarthub and for 30 seconds and turning it back on
Honestly, this feels like a never ending story with theses cameras.. 😞
Anyway thanks team...

I was not able to replicate this symptom as you described. I tested with an iOS and Android device. Which version of the Arlo app are you using? And which devices does this occur with?
Thanks

I still see the 4k badge after updating as well on Pixel 6a, I wonder if it's device specific. which Arlo cameras does this occur on?
Thanks for the info!

Not device specific! Ultra.
The 'live' badge, instead of 4k, has been the issue for some time - I reported this ages ago - and still no fix for it. I just pressed the button to get live streaming twice and on both occasions I got the live badge, not the 4k badge.
Can we finally have this addressed? And can the dev team finally please stop fiddling with this system so that I can finally use it for what it's intended for? I've not had that since Arlo separated from Netgear.

It's intermittent, at least. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I just checked and it's working again. But I've done a screen recording for you when it's not working, so there you go.

I have the arlo Ultra 2 , with the smart hub VMB5000r6
It happens on both cameras however my arlo door bell is working fine with the 2k badge showing (using both connections types: Wifi direct and the Base station, for some reason it's always the ultra 2 cameras.
I feel the dev team have yet to find the best background coding/ camera & Base station update for theses since release as there is always something wrong with them.
And lastly i cant apeak for evertone but personally ( and i hope anyone that sees this adds their opinion )
I would love the option to be able to wifi direct the ultra 2 but also have the Base station still keep the cloud/ local recordings for them as it seems they break something with every Base station & App update

Hey @ShayneS
I am here in Australia, with FTTP Fibre to the Premises
And i decided to turn off and unplug my modem from the wall socket and also the NTD box for 30 seconds and so far my ultras 2 cameras are back showing 4k in live.
I will let it sit for a couple of days to see if it stays,
Can we keep this open as I know @marnihome & @Edinburgh_lad1 are also having issues,
Thanks

As I said before, it's intermittent. I just tested and it's working fine. I have no idea what it depends on and I have no intention to try to work it out for Arlo.
Bottom line is sometimes it's working and sometimes not.
I will exclude my other devices or connection from this because I know they all work fine (I too have FTTP).

To stream in 4K, you need to be on your local network. You can find more info in this article here

Hey @ShayneS just an update @Edinburgh_lad1 is correct this is definitely an arlo issue
Woke up this morning and back to live only
So to summarize:
- Removing and re-adding the cameras did not work.
- Re-syncing the cameras to the Base station did nothing
- Unplugging my internet did nothing ( definitely a coincidence it come back after the restart)
- I can also confirm it's only the arlo Ultra 2 ( for me personally as that is all I own so I cant test others)
- The arlo 2k doorbell is working fine (connected both via wifi direct & the Base station)
So it has to be an issue somewhere with with the latest base station, app or camera update.

I know that! @ShayneS
I've tried twice tonight: first time, the label 'live' appeared, then the second time, '2k', followed by '4k'.

FWIW, I enabled 4K livestreaming when I saw this report.
I am not seeing 4K labels for any of my Ultra cameras when my iPhone is connected to my home wifi. 2K labels are showing up for my various 2K cameras.

I can see that moving objects/humans are pixelated on my Pro 2, while the background remains in focus (though still not the HD quality you'd expect these days). The quality of the footage on my Ultra also leaves a lot to be desired. Comparing this to recordings of, say, the Ring doorbell, which you can find on Youtube, I note a huge difference in quality.
