I recently updated to the Ultra-2 cameras for my house. It seams to me that they do not have quite as good range as my Arlo Pro, Pro2, or even the Essentials camera that I have hooked up. That being said they did all connect with 2 of the 3 bars showing in the app and have been working all week. Today the two cameras furthest away went offline. I moved my hub to a more central location in the house and one came back online. The other I had to take down and temporarily remove the battery. Then I noticed that all of the cameras were only showing 1 red dot for signal strength in the app. The only difference today is it's about 13 degrees outside and very windy. I thought these cameras would work down to -4? Also, one of my Arlo Pro2 cameras is hooked to the same hub and further away and its showing full signal? Anyone have any feedback on this? Is there a way to force the camera to go connect at 2.4ghz and not 5? I am wondering if that's the range issue? Thank you!

Our cameras sometimes stop working in very cold weather. It’s currently 11 Fahrenheit where I live and one of our three cameras is offline. We usually bring the cameras inside when this happens, let them warm up, and charge them. Then they work fine until the next cold snap.

Although they advertise the range going down to -4°F, I think that is the camera and/or battery temperature and not the ambient temperature. Sometimes mine will work below -4° and sometimes they’ll go offline at 5°F. It seems to depend on the windchill factor and sunlight exposure where they’re mounted. If they’re mounted high up and out in the wind, they’ll go offline sooner, whereas if they’re on the south side of my house and protected from wind yet also getting sunlight, they’ll work a few degrees below the -4° cutoff.

There are no user controls for this - the only way to force 2.4 ghz is to not use a VMB5000 smarthub (all the other bases, including the VMB4540 only have 2.4 ghz radios).

They require more bandwidth from the wifi link. Since the connection speed drops at longer distances, the ultra (and 2K cameras) will have somewhat less range than the 720p and 1080p cameras.

Any precipation? Rain or snow can reduce wifi performance.
