You'd need a smarthub (VMB4540 or VMB5000).  Do you have one? See here for instructions on local storage setup:

Insert a microSD card (at least 16 GB) into the bottom of the base.   Then set up local storage (format the drive, and enable direct access to local storage in the base).

Once you get it working when you are on your home wifi, you can then move on to setting up remote access.

That smarthub also supports direct access to local storage.  https://kb.arlo.com/000062337/What-is-Direct-Storage-Access-and-how-do-I-use-it-for-Arlo-video-recor...

Not sure what device you are talking about.

But all base stations have a label on them that starts with VMB - that will tell you the model.

Cameras are a bit trickier.

  • Cameras that use 4 CR123 batteries are the original Arlo WireFree models (VMC3030)
  • Cameras that use replaceable Lithium batteries have a part number label inside the camera shell.  Remove the battery, and look for a label that starts with VM
  • Arlo Essential cameras are completely sealed.  There are two main models: Arlo Essential, and Arlo Essential Spotlight.  There's also the XL version of the Essential Spotlight, that has a much bigger battery.

There are some other possibilities (Arlo has made a lot of camera models over the years) - but these are the main ones.
