Just got a notification that the subscription of the Arlo Secure Plan is being increased yet again.  What I find appaling is the fact that the company tries to justify the price increase with all these new features yet the increase for the monthly subscription option is a significant $8/month unless you want to pay for a full year in advance which is what many companies are doing to lock you in.  I remember just a couple of years ago I was paying $9.99/mo which will now be double for the same quality equipment I can get with many of their competitors.  So, what I will do instead is cancel my subscription and trash the cameras and switch to something better and more reasonable priced.  This is not to offer the end users more features but to price gouge and be greedy.

Thank you all for the feedback. On January 3rd Arlo has updated subscription plans and pricing to enhance the Arlo Secure experience, doubling cloud video storage, and making new AI-powered capabilities available to all subscribers in the US. We have simplified into two plans to allow you to easily identify which features are right for your security needs.

For more information on the new Arlo Secure plans, available now, see https://www.arlo.com/en-us/arlosecure.html

This is a blessing in disguise for me. While WiFi is super convenient, it comes with major problems, such as potential disconnects, jamming and, worst of all ... BATTERIES! I've had nothing but bad experience with my Arlos claiming low battery, or even worse, requiring me to haul out a ladder and climb up to remove the battery and put it back in. At any given time, I typically have 1 or 2 cameras complaining. Right now ALL of my outdoor cameras are tagged with low temperature changing problems. A friend did a Unifi PoE set up. I can handle running ethernet, and in fact, already have it close to many of my locations.

Yes, this is absolutely shameful.   What about an option to keep the old subscription price with the old features?  None of these additional features justify the price increased Arlo seems to demand.  Most of the features will not be used.  This is a ploy to try and convince people they need more services at a higher cost.  I had Arlo for YEARS with ABSOLUTELY NO SUBSCRIPTION CHARGE.

I have subscribed for one more year at my old rate (purchase annually and you can get your old rate for a year).  If Arlo does not get their pricing scheme in line with reality, your subscribers will be more than happy to assist you in that.  How many subscribers is Arlo willing to lose before they realize their mistake with this pricing scheme?

I'm going to be looking around for other security/camera services that are reasonably priced.

This is getting out of control, if Arlo continues with this pace I hope your demise is sooner than later.

Some of you brought up a good point of users who are unable to make the switch right away as they may be heavily invested in the equipment or in the middle of their contract.  However, if you are unable to make the switch and do not agree with this company's pricing tactics, you can still make an impact by not recommending their products or by reviewing their products on retailers' websites you may have purchased the equipment from.  I recently purchased new Arlo Essential cameras so I plan to go back to the retailer I purchased them from and writing a review advising others not to purchase Arlo cameras because of their subscription pricing practices.  So even if they don't lose enough users right away to feel an impact, hopefully they feel the impact of reduced future equipment sales and subscriptions once the word spreads.

I just bought a Eufy 4-cam system with a HomeBase base station.
I should have done this years ago.
This system just works, all of it, right out of the box.
It's superior to Arlo in every way, and no subscription required...

..and Eufy sells their systems on Amazon for half price.

I've been researching ubiquiti. Going all in. In fact, I've even replacing my Eero. I'm going PoE and segmenting the network with VLANs. Dream Machine SE. It will cost a bunch up front, but from everything I've learned it's great stuff.

I got a new Pro5S cam boxed up and being returned tomorrow at the UPS store. Was going to add it into the system but since their newest money grab I'm moving on. I could have lived with a reasonable multi cam fee but to outright come out and screw me by charging more than twice what two single cams plans would cost is a bit much. Most people only have 1 or 2 cams so the unlimited cam fee is crazy high.  And now having to come up with another system and all the research I must do makes me hate Arlo even more.

I received an email stating my annual fee of $149.99, which is already very high is going up to $215.88 on Feb 3rd.
They offer a link to keep the $149.99 price for 1 year. A $65.00 increase for features I will not use!  Really.
They need more of a feature and device based model.  This is ridiculous ly high.

The new Arlo Experience App is complete junk.  I had to get them to roll me back to the current app.
If we are recording locally we should not even need a subscription.
Let us opt in and pay for features that we want!
The few support tickets I have opened were due to app bugs, not device or user error.  It took a month to escalate and resolve them.
And you cannot manually record when your home and your phone is on the same network as the base station.  So you are supposed to switch to cellular or another access point?  How silly is that.  But it works if you are remote.
I’ve got 14 cameras, 4 lights and two doorbells.  I may renew this year, maybe not, then it’s all getting ripped out.  I’ll switch and pay the price for devices that have better functionality and no or lower subscription costs.

I ordered a bunch of stuff to get me started with ubiquity, including a doorbell. I'll be going all local and ditching subscriptions.

@tjptony

I understand your frustration with having to replace all those cameras. I only had five and a doorbell, but I removed them all last week and installed a new Eufy system. With Eufy or another brand that offers pan and tilt cameras, you might get away with installing fewer cameras. I replaced two of my cameras in the front and back with just one due to this feature.

Additionally, I just ordered their floodlight with 360-degree recording capability, which can also provide continuous recording 24/7. I’ve been very pleased with this change; the app is significantly better than Arlo's. I sympathize with you—Arlo made a mess of things. Good luck!

I was first paying $9.99/mo then $12.99 /mo which I was fine with. The weird thing is is if the plan went to $19.99/mo why in the world did I get a 50% discount off of $329? Since I renewed for the year, why will next year be $329? Does everyone else see that crazy price? The lady on the phone said to call back each year to see special offers but that doesn't make sense. I will be finding new cameras. I've already been looking into it.

$20 is half my internet bill! Just a crazy price increase for this product. I’m willing to pay $12/month at most. Put the prices back and stop pretending to add features that no one wants, or we’re all going to take our business somewhere else. This is price gouging and your product isn’t worth it.

I’m finished too.  I just “redeemed” my annual “offer” because I felt backed in a corner.   They are out of their minds. I don’t need all of those extras…..They proclaim as added value.   it’s pure and simple price gouging.    I will be examining all of the other wonderful alternatives on the market in the next months to come.
