Just got a notification that the subscription of the Arlo Secure Plan is being increased yet again. What I find appaling is the fact that the company tries to justify the price increase with all these new features yet the increase for the monthly subscription option is a significant $8/month unless you want to pay for a full year in advance which is what many companies are doing to lock you in. I remember just a couple of years ago I was paying $9.99/mo which will now be double for the same quality equipment I can get with many of their competitors. So, what I will do instead is cancel my subscription and trash the cameras and switch to something better and more reasonable priced. This is not to offer the end users more features but to price gouge and be greedy.

Thank you all for the feedback. On January 3rd Arlo has updated subscription plans and pricing to enhance the Arlo Secure experience, doubling cloud video storage, and making new AI-powered capabilities available to all subscribers in the US. We have simplified into two plans to allow you to easily identify which features are right for your security needs.

I've been with Arlo since the service was completely free after purchasing the cameras! Next month they want to charge me 19.99 a month on my old Arlo Pro's! I went to cancel and they gave me half off for 3 months (ill believe it when I see it). I already have a new system in my cart on amazon with a $0.00 subscription that I will be purchasing very soon and canceling arlo within the next 3 months. The new (4) cameras will cost about one year worth of what the Arlo subscription would cost. Good bye Arlo!

I totally agree. I have been trying to get support re the lack of features and to get geolocation working. I have lost count of the number of support solutions I have received over and tried and that do not work!
what bothers me is that we all seem to be taking to each other and ARLO MANAGEMENT just sits back and doesn’t offer to fix these issues.
Once the cameras are purchased you’re locked in! NOT IMPRESSED.

Yeah, I just got a notification that my monthly price is increasing to $19.99! That is insane. I'm disgusted by all the subscription fees on everything now. Luckily, I own a Synology, which comes with a Surveillance Station. I'm canceling Arlo and switching to a local system. The level of greed is amazing when it comes to subscriptions these days.

Absolutely ridiculous! I am cancelling too. However, the portal that is needed to cancel my subscription keeps saying "request timed out" and is not allowing me to login. I suspect that there are many people doing the same thing.

My current subscription info says my last payment was $162.51/year and will be the same renewing in June. Good idea about taking a screenshot of subscription payment info on my profile. Sounds like they can't be trusted.

Thank you, Arlo, for finally giving me the nudge I needed to finally toss your POS cameras in the garbage where they belong. In the years that I've been a customer, I can't recall a single month in all that time where I didn't have problems with your crap software. My latest issue is that all notifications stop every ten minutes or so, and I have to restart both the phone app and your web interface.
So, today, I ordered a complete new system from a competitor.
Thanks for the incentive, and adios, a**holes.

I've been looking at Eufy all evening. It's crazy that they offer the same features as Arlo, which is included in the price. I am also looking to replace my Ring doorbell, which also raised their subscription cost.

Why wait a year and give them the satisfaction?
I bought a whole new system today, it will be here next week.
I can't wait to toss this garbage system into the trash.
I'm not even going to try to sell any of it.
I wouldn't subject a stranger to this POS company.

That's what I bought. A new 4-cam Eufy system.
You can find this system on Amazon for half price.

Something from Reolink like RCL-830A, but they have a ton of affordable options that do everything Arlo does or more with NO subscription!

It feels like just another greedy money grab by a subscription service. I was already on the fence when they increased the price last year. Paying $240 a year for cloud storage with many features I don’t use or care about is not worth it. I canceled my service for both Arlo and Ring today (ring increased this year too).
After a few hours of research, I purchased all Eufy products, cameras, a doorbell, and their base station. The impressive part is that Eufy offers all of the same features, including AI capabilities, without requiring a subscription, and the hardware costs are comparable to Arlo. Previously, I had four Arlo cameras, but the Eufy cameras I bought have motion tracking, allowing me to cover the same areas of my property with just two cameras. Additionally, the Eufy cameras came with solar panels, which I had to buy separately for my Arlo cameras. The doorbell I purchased has two cameras, enabling a view of packages below my door, which I found quite handy.
In general, I'm just fed up with subscriptions; I'm not going to put up with it for things like cameras or other home tech hardware. It's such an incredible waste of money.

I saw Eufy and screenshots. There is so much that their app displays, for example charging stats from a solar panel, that Arlo should be ashamed for giving us this keech.
Clearly competition is well ahead and Arlo have been complacent - they barely manage to fix issues, if at all actually, not to mention new features! I actually don't recall a new feature being implemented to my system - it's the same basic stuff and in fact, a step back with the lack of flexibility of mode changes in the new app. I suppose they'll rave about custom modes when eventually, and if, they make a cone back, but it's their practice: take away features to then implement them again to have something "new and exciting", as they call it, to rave about.
It's a strange company that treats its customers like stupid people. Buts it's been an eye opener to be on this forum and to read about other people's view of them, too, for I thought I was isolated with my opinion 😹
Regarding the new plan - I've not seen the details but I'd have serious reservations about cameras using face recognition.

Thank you all for your responses. Glad to hear I'm not the only one hating this company's tactics to line their pockets! I did also get the 3 month $9.99 offer when I tried to cancel which I will take advantage of to research my options. Thank you all for your suggestions and good luck on finding a new system from a company that won't nickel and dime you!

I ordered that 4-cam Eufy system last night from Amazon for half price ($399, reg. $799).
This morning, I went to check on the order and the price has dropped, to $349.
Called Amazon, they said they couldn't adjust the price on a promotion, but luckily the order hadn't been filled yet.
So, they cancelled it and I just ordered it again.
Now I'm getting it for LESS than half price.
Thanks again Arlo, for making this an easy decision.

I completely understand how you feel. I currently have four cameras, along with a new one still in the box that I haven't installed yet. I was so frustrated with Arlo that I decided to spend $600 on Eufy products. The cameras and base arrived from Amazon this morning, and I'm genuinely excited to install them.
The Eufy cameras have a higher resolution than my Arlo ones and feature motion tracking. The doorbell has a camera positioned at the bottom, allowing you to see packages and food deliveries below the camera's view. Another nice thing is that the cameras come at various price points; I purchased two higher-end ones for the front and back of my house and two more affordable ones for the side. They all include solar panels, which my Arlo camera did not have. The best part is no monthly fee, and they offer all the same features as Arlo.
I regret that I recently helped a friend install Arlo cameras on his house. I hope he can return them to Costco and get his money back, as I doubt he will want to pay $240 a year for the service.

With lots of Arlo cameras I took the one year deal to carefully look around for a new system with special pricing. But it’s hard to ignore the fact that buying a different system for several hundred dollars with no monthly costs will soon make Arlo a distant memory. Too bad. I liked their system and found it reliable most, but not all of the time over many years. It’s unfortunate how they could waste all that good will of many users. It makes me wonder if they’re about to cash out and disappear?

It's a shame that the new features are not a la carte for those who want or need them and are willing to pay for them. All others have to pay for those new features regardless of need or use. Arlo should really listen to its users. Just by this thread alone, you can see the negative impact this new pricing is causing your users. This will lead you to lose a lot of clients including myself. There are too many quality competitors out there so plenty of options for us to choose from.

@JamesC I've had Arlo for several years, and space has never been an issue. I have a drive plugged into the base to store videos, which I've never needed to access the entire time I've owned Arlo. The new AI features you mentioned don't justify the price increase. I read through the latest AI features but don't see myself using them. I don't need privacy zones or if the sprinkles or garbage can lids are open. I want a simple solution to notify my phone when someone walks onto my property, and that isn't worth $20 a month. Either way, I've ordered Eufy cameras and will take down my Arlo's this week. Hopefully, I can sell them on eBay/marketplace before people realize the outrageous yearly cost of owning them.
