Hi, I have been upgraded to the new app and am struggling to set up my automations and geofence as per the old app.

I want the camera to go into arm home and only record outside the house from 0800,  but go into arm home and record everywhere when we leave the house.  Then at 1900 I want the camera to go into arm home mode regardless of if we are home or not.

I have tried multiple combinations and cannot get this to work seamlessly. I often have to manual change to arm away or arm home.

This new routines on the new app is awful and doesn't work well or provide me peace of mind that I'm being protected.

Have you read this?

It sounds like you need to use Arm Away as well as Arm Home to achieve your goal. Arm Away by default should have rules for all cameras while Arm Home has rules for only those needed. Schedules should switch between those at appropriate times. Geofencing is a bit of a sticky problem and has been for quite a while now with schedules overriding GF. Generally, I find using Specific People Arrive/Leave works better than Anyone/Everyone.

It may be fastest to post screenshots of your schedules and geofencing configs.

Arm Away, Arm Home, and Standby are system-wide modes, and not modes for each camera.

It sounds like you want

  • all cameras armed when you are away
  • all cameras armed at night (between 1700 and 0800)
  • only outdoor cameras armed when you are home between 0800 and 1700

Is this correct?

This is correct.

For example, today I left the house at 0650, the Arm away mode was still on. At 0800 arm home turned on, despite geofence being on to set arm away when away from the house. So, I had to manually go back and put the system to Arm away.

This worked seamlessly in the old app and now they don't appear to work together

I suggest setting up Arm Home and Arm Away to arm all your cameras.  Then modify standby so that it arms your outdoor cameras only.

Then set up a schedule to switch modes between Arm Home and Standby, and set up geofencing to switch to Arm Away when everyone leaves, and Arm Home then everyone returns.  One downside here is that when you return home during the day, you'll need to manually change to the mode to standby.

One caveat here - many folks have found that the geofencing automations aren't triggering reliably.  So you could potentially just put the schedule in place now, and switch modes manually when you leave and return.  Then wait for Arlo to fix the bugs.  Annoying but likely less frustrating.

When you set up the automations, you want

  • Scheduling automations to be enabled in both Arm Home and Standby
  • Geofencing Leave to be always enabled
  • Geofencing Arrive to be enabled in Arm Away only.

Here are some screenshots you can use as models (the times are not what you want, but everything else is).  Pay particular attention to the enable lists (which are right underneath the automation names).
