Hello. I unfortunately upgraded my Arlo App and have had fits trying to set it to follow pretty simple schedules:

Home / Day: Turn off everything but 1 camera

Home / Night: Turn on everything

Away: Turn on everything

The new setup for schedules and automations makes my head explode. I think I've read enough community posts (which have had really thorough answers, thank you) to mostly make sense of the options, but overall the user experience of scheduling in the app is really poor, complicated, confusing, and backwards in my opinion. I don't really recall having any issues in with the same functionality prior to these changes. If Arlo has a better place to share this type of feedback please advise.

Best regards.

We understand there have been several challenges with the new user experience. The feedback posted in the community is absolutely appreciated. The concerns here, amongst others, are being consolidated internally and passed up to product management for review.

As we move forward with the new user interface we will keep community up to date on future changes and plans to make the experience aligned with user expectations.

    Thanks,

    JamesC

oh I am still with 5.3.3_28779 for android (release 18-Dec-2024) so guess I'll hold it against any newer updates at the moment.

so it has arrived.  I have to make sure I am NOT updating 😆

@JamesC sorry, but what's the point in passing on the feedback to your superiors if nothing is being done about the issues. Honestly, the level of arrogance (and incompetence) is unbelievable. I spent a lot of my hard earned money on this system and every time I look at the app, I'm reminded of that mistake. So, my expectation is that Arlo will make improvements to this product. It'd be different if there were isolated calls for that - this forum is filled to the brim with disappointed customers (actually, read this as unhappy).

My second phone updated to Arlo Secure v5.4 overnight and now it too is experiencing the same issues.  I can live with the automatic panning when zooming, but cannot accept that the app crashes when I try to access a library recording.  Adding insult to it all is that when it crashes I get a message that the software has a bug and that I must wait for the developers to fix it. This needs to be fixed.  The issue of not being able to access library recordings after a software update has happened with Arlo before, testing before release of a new version needs to be better.  The same problem "fixed" in an earlier version should not reoccur if they have addressed the true root cause.

I hate the new app design. We cannot figure out how to set the schedule and to customize notifications and Arlo only offers outdated videos that show the old app. I could not be more annoyed with Arlo. Looks like it’s time to move on to a new system with a new company.

We are experiencing the same frustrations and Arlo is offering no help. So disappointed.

If anyone can give step by step advice we want to do a simple schedule of all camera in from 9 pm to 7 am the only 2 cameras on from 7am to 9pm. And we only want to be notified of people and cars but also want to record animals and it seems like that is no longer an option. I’m so frustrated!

Start by

  1. setting up Arm Away and Arm Home to arm all your cameras (likely that ius already the case)
  2. setting up standby to arm the 2 cameras you want armed 24x7.  You do this by adding rules for those cameras

Next create two schedule automations

  1. One to switch the system to "Standby" mode at 7 am
  2. One to switch the system to "Arm Home" mode at 9 pm

Both of these automations should be enabled only in Arm Home and Standby modes.  Note the enable list is right under the automation.  A lot of people are confusing this list with the action they want the automation to take.  You can also see (and modify) the list by looking in each mode.  There is a list there of all the automations that tells you whether that automation is enabled when the system is in that mode (or not).

Now the system will follow the schedule as long as you keep initially set it in "Arm Home" or "Standby".

If you leave on a trip, you can keep all cameras armed 24x7 by simply manually changing the mode to "Arm Away".  Then set the mode back to either "Arm Home" or "Standby" when you return.

Secure Plus and Secure Premium should let you do this.  You just disable animals in the "Smart Detection" area of the app.

But I don't know if you can do this with the basic plan.

Thanks. I set up automations and it is still not doing what we want and it is frustrating that we now have to pay more and upgrade to use our system the way we have previously used it for years. I would like to be reverted back to the old app functionality or we will likely replace our system with Eufy cameras. They seem to be rated well and you don’t have to pay a monthly fee. Cost is higher on the front end but if they work like our Arlo cameras used to work then it may be our only option.

If you post screenshots and explain how the system is misbehaving, we might be able to help.

Yeah, I get that.  A couple of folks managed to convince support to do that, but I haven't seen any recent posts saying that they were reverted.

Apart from them saying that they did, do we have any proof of that?

I don't.

That said, I don't have any reason to think they didn't somehow manage to convince support to switch them back to Library.

In any event, it's clear everyone will end up using "Feed" at some point, so even if you did manage to get switched back it would only be temporary.
