Ever since being forced to upgrade to the new Arlo app experience, I’ve been plagued by an incredibly annoying and seemingly pointless feature: when I change the system mode from Arm Home to Arm Away (or vice versa), the app sends a push notification with the same sound and appearance as a normal system alert. But I know I’ve changed modes—I just did it myself in the app. Why do I need to be notified of something I just did?

It’s disruptive, adds zero value, and honestly feels more like a bug than a feature. If someone else in the household changed the mode, sure, a notification would make sense. But for the person who initiates the change? It’s utterly redundant.

Please, Arlo—either remove this notification for the initiating user, or at least give us the option to turn it off. Not every action I take needs to be echoed back at me with a sound and flash.

Other users have moaned about this too.

We appreciate you reaching out to us with this feature request. I have let the development team know. If there is any change regarding this feature I will reach out to the community.

I agree! Please either remove this or atleast give an option to turn this off! It is disruptive to others around the vicinity and I also may not want an announcement that I am changing modes for security reasons.

Ditto. Annoying with shared Arlo cameras from other accounts after being forced to upgrade and starting the month trial that I didn't want.

Arlo why would you do this? How do I remove this from my phone. NO way to turn it off? How can I get my old app back? This is garbage, Who would ever want Noise to blast out of their phone when ever they turn their cams on or off. Why would their be no way to fix it?

You cannot revert back to the old app. However, I have passed this feature request onto the development team and we do appreciate your feedback.

So I have Arlo Pro, and with the new app, there was a 30-day countdown wanting you to pay for a subscription, so after the 30 days expired, all my cameras stopped working. Not happy, so I called support, and they said you have old cameras and it is no longer supported, but my cameras were supposed to be grandfathered in anyway.  But still they stopped working. So I went into the app, deleted all my cameras and my base, then added them back on the app, and also had to resync all my cameras, and the cameras started working again and recording videos, on the cloud. It all works very well, almost like when I originally had it. The only thing is that the Custom mode for now is not the best. I can either disable it from there or have one camera working before I was able to have multiple cameras working, but they may have that feature in the future. But I can use Arm Away or Arm home or Standby for camera control so everything is good so you do not need a subscription if you have Arlo Pro and maybe Arlo pro 2?  Also what needs to be fixed and this has been going on for a while and support says the tech team is aware of the problem is

With the new app everyone is notified when systems is armed/disarmed. So every member of your household will get the same notification sound as you would get if motion was detected when you change status from Arm to Standby very annoying please fix it. thank you

Whoever thought this would be a good idea needs sacking. For goodness sake, is this whole infrastructure run by children? I KNOW I've set a mode - I DON'T need a reminder!!

The notification feature about mode changes is absolutely pointless and useless, especially that you can switch off cameras without other users being notified about it, if this is about trying to warm users that cameras may not be active. So, what is its actual purpose of being notified that one changed modes? Probably just for the sake of it.

As requested multiple times before, a more useful feature instead would be to the ability to pause camera activity for a specified amount of time. It's unclear to me why this isn't still implemented.

Just noticed that one of my sets is offline. I have no idea how long it's been like that, but clearly there's also a need for notifications when the system goes down instead of for when modes are changed.

Every time I change the mode it sends a notification to my phone and my wife's phone. This is particularly frustrating at night.  I don't want the notification every time we change modes, like from, custom to, arm home! Please change your program to stop these notifications.

It has been 9 months since this was reported and seems still not fixed. By arlos timelines for app changes it probably has another 6-9months if it is going to be fixed. I have 6 people in the house that work different schedules and used to turn off cameras following there normal schedule. This worked well for years. New app FORCED upon me last 2 days. I change custom modes 6 times a night, 6 different phones. Now every phone gets an alert 6 times a night!!! This app is now simply unusable for every day use as it cannot accomadate my patterns. Obviously meant for single person apartment use now. Time to finish my replacement of arlo because this is crazy being woken at 1-2am because a mode change that I set has occurred. I know the mode is going to change I SET IT. Time to finally remove this system basically because of the FORCED upgrade.

One day post arlo FORCED the update and the 5 other residents of the house fixed the annoying alerts at mode change from going off by the most user centric way possible. They uninstaller Arlo app so they could sleep. And there you go a proposed security system with such a poor user interface that user uninstall it rather than using it. So definitely now time to move because I want a usable security solution and this is not it.

Custom modes will be available to all users again in the near future. As well as the team is currently working on the alerts for mode change. I will update the community as soon as possible.
