I upgraded to the new App and yearly plan and it felt like a downgrade. We utilized many modes for our cameras, such as a “Windy Mode” that allowed us to reduce the sensitivity of the motion detection so cameras are not being set off to leaves or branches moving. Now we are limited to 3 modes and no way to control that sensitivity. I am very disappointed with this upgrade and do not understand why Arlo would remove functionality with an upgrade. I would caution anyone looking to renew their subscription or update their app. This was one of the main usefulness of the system and the app and now it is gone in favor of I don’t know what in the new App. I really hope Arlo addresses this fast.

Your likely to have to wait another 12 months for arlo to make a move since they have just recently acknowledged that the new app UI is a failure on many fronts, ironically after the EOL date having passed for their legacy devices.

I haven't actually seen Arlo admit that.  Where have you seen it?

What is the latest on either the ability to go back to the old user interface that allowed customization across multiple locations OR a fix for the new app that only allows you to do the same?  I spent an hour on a chat last night with someone who didn't help AT ALL....  When I tried to contact customer support via phone, they called twice and immediately disconnected when I answered the call.  I am furious about this change and as a long time Arlo customer, I wold expect better all around customer service.

You can't.

Arlo says they are working on this, but haven't said when they will release it.  Hopefully that will happen soon.

Looks like I'm in for a struggle. I had three locations operating smoothly. The upgrade promotion I wish I had ignored. I'll be working on a solution

It reminds me a little bit to my Sonos nightmare experience last year when Sonos introduced the new App

I came up with a solution. Thinking outside the box with three properties, which I utilize. I use secure home when I’m at one and the other two Record. I use the second mode when I’m at the other property and the other two are secured and I use standby at the third property and the other two are secured. Just had to write the rules for each mode And that’s how I’m working around. Would be nice if they just gave me more than the three modes and you could program your own description.

I agree, I used to have the free plan since I did not needed to have videos recorded past 7 days. Then 2 cameras died so I purchased 2 new and had to upgrade, not only that since the latest update to the app the cameras sensitivity went from good to nonexistent. They are slow, I have them almost at 100 and yet they used to capture a whole lot more before now I feel by the time I get notified the person or what’re has already come and gone. Also used to have multiple modes these are now useless. Been a customer since I think 2017 all good until they decided to change. Not sure of when the upgrades some I’ll renew. I hate to have to spend more in cameras but having an obsolete sensitivity kind of misses the point of the cameras.

@Dvisentin have you went into the settings and changed the sensitivity for each of the cameras to see if that helps?

Yes of course. I’ve used Arlo for years. All was good until that update, now it’s slow, sensitivity not as good, notifications are slow and the app itself I don’t like it, much simpler and useful before. It’s not the user, it’s the app

Any updates from the hardworking developer team regarding the additional mode support?
certainly more a product management question than development

I do not have any updates as of today, however I will reach out to the community as soon as I do.

I see many other threads in this community with community members voicing their displeasure with the loss of Custom Modes. I am 100% in agreement with all these complaints as I have been an Arlo user for more than 10 years. The ability to use schedules in combination with Geofencing and multiple custom modes has been critical to the usefulness of Arlo in and outside my home. My system only upgraded (it didn't appear that I had a choice when this happened to my account in both my App and the Web portal on the same day) on July 21, 2025 and since then I struggled to configure the only three modes available (since all my previous modes and settings were lost when the upgrade happened) and now find that I have to manually enable and disable cameras at different times each day to avoid recording when I don't want to. With one camera in particular that I used to schedule turning off and on recording daily (to avoid excess recordings and in some cases protect personal privacy)  now has to stay in record mode.  When using the schedule to control custom modes this camera's battery would last 4 or 5 months. Now with it recording all activity (that I don't want recorded) all day long the battery charge only lasts a few days. I am now manually disabling this camera each morning (when I remember to) and enabling it each evening.

Please advise when the custom modes will once again be available, since you have been saying since at least January 2025 that the feedback regarding this issue has been heard and that Arlo is working on restoring these features.

Thank you.

Arlo wasn't around until 2015 (maybe late 2014).

We're all waiting (im)patiently for custom modes. I'd rather have them work properly along with the current interface and newer devices (custom modes were dropped because the security hub only recognized the 3 default modes).

The Arlo brand was created by Netgear in 2014, which is when the Arlo Pro cameras were launched.

The company history goes back to Avaak, which began as a startup in 2004.   The Vue (later VueZone) cameras were launched by Avaak in 2010.  I don't know of anything sold before then, but there might have been something.  Avaak was acquired by Netgear in 2012, and Arlo was divested by Netgear in 2018.

Smalll error here, the Pro was launched in 2016.  The 2014 camera was the original Arlo HD camera (VMC3030).
