I opted for Arlo a number of years ago because they didn't require a subscription for recording with the interior Arlo Q, but it now seems their new plans require a subscription for recording with all cameras, including the Arlo Q.   Is this correct?   I will reassessment my decision to use Arlo products if this is true.   PS, their online support service is terrible.

No, the Q does not need a subscription if the free 7 day, 5 (legacy) camera plan is  sufficient. However, if you're using a feature such as activity zones that's a premium feature, that would require a subscription. You can delete those zones or otherwise disable whatever premium feature is in use to eliminate any subscription issues.

Thank you.  This wasn't clear to me from the latest subscription plan revision info they just distributed.

I am feeling your pain.  I have used Arlo cameras for years, starting with 6 of the Pro 2 variety along with the Arlo door bell.  When the Pro 4 cameras came out I upgraded the 6 cameras and was paying a sum that was okay for us.  Now, suddenly I am expected to pay a rate that I'm not prepared to pay.

So, without the plan Arlo offers and a camera has activity, I have nothing to look at which renders the cameras useless, of course.

I upgraded to the new app and my arlo Q activity zones no longer work. It used to be included but the new app took away the feature. So annoyed.

We apologize for the frustration. However, activity zones will indeed need a subscription.

I don't see how you can take away features that I've been using since I bought the product with a software update and expect customers not to be very upset.  I would not feel comfortable forking over more cash just to get a feature back that you took away with an app update.  Instead Arlo will have to deal with increased recordings taxing your servers and I will consider different camera's next time.

Thanks

Very sneaky to NOT mention the fact that the features being used (and you know which features are being used) will now require a subscription IF the app is upgraded.
