I asked this before and it was never resolved:
Is there a good reason Arlo Q pretty much refuses to record motion that lasts longer than 20-30 seconds? The VAST majority of my clips have very obvious motion going on longer than 20-30 seconds but the Q just does not like recording longer clips.
Pretty much every time I'm mowing my yard I'm visible for probably 5 minutes going back and forth but when I come in all I see are a bunch of 20 second clips. Obviously I don't care about video of me mowing my lawn, but it is a perfect example.

If you just pace back in forth in front of the camera within the FOV, does it still do it? Can you move in such a way that it records for longer?

sometimes it does, but it really doesn't seem to like recording longer clips.
here's an example..
busting out the leaf blower.. after 36 seconds it goes "welp no more movement" even though i was a giant black blob moving on a white concrete driveway the whole time:
https://arlo.netgear.com/hmsweb/users/library/share/link/FF6D017DB1C3686C_201708
starts up again 2 seconds later and gives up after 27 seconds:
https://arlo.netgear.com/hmsweb/users/library/share/link/3AE791822F6749F0_201708
waits 36 seconds and then records for a minute:

this really should have been one continuous clip. it is almost always like that.
the Q motion detection is usually good at starting the clip before whatever object comes in the frame but it sucks at continuing to record until the object leaves the frame completely.

another perfect example just now of my neighbors coming home (mute it unless you want to hear me telling my wife about marvel's newest netflix show):

after 24 seconds it just gave up even though the black nissan was still backing up into the garage while the white acura tsx followed it up into the driveway.

Off topic but I found S1 E1 of the defenders a bit boring
Not sure about the clips. Perhaps contact support and open a ticket

Have you checked the box under mode that says
Record until activity stops (up to 300 sec)

Can you wave your hand in front of the camera about 10cm away and see if it'll record for 2 minutes? Guess you'll get a tired arm

yup! i set this when i first put the camera up. seemed better than to just automatically record for 2 minutes... but i'm guessing it might be better to just record 2 minutes every time.

10cm is a bit close.... arlo engineers shouldn't be using 10cm as a test for anything IMO.
because the wire is tucked away i aimed it at my giant ceiling fan and hit the light switch...
Q got to 1:34 before it decided a giant black thing spinning in front of a beige background was no longer moving:
https://arlo.netgear.com/hmsweb/users/library/share/link/6D00E6B216D0EB03_201708
4+ minutes later after it gave up the Q hasn't triggered motion again.
i turned the light off and back on and that triggered it. we got to 1:21 this time before it gave up:
https://arlo.netgear.com/hmsweb/users/library/share/link/224B0454ABDE1C46_201708
another 4+ minutes later after it gave up the Q hasn't triggered motion again.
very odd.
