I currently have an Arlo wireless system (with 5 cameras) connected at home. I just bought the a new Arlo Pro2 system (base plus 5 cameras) to upgrade. I want both systems working for now. I can't get the base station to connect to my phone app. When I sync the new pro2 cameras to the new pro2 base station, they appear in the app as if I'm trying to add them to the old base station and I get an error that my current subscribtion supports only 5 cameras... How do I get the new Arlo Pro2 base to connect to the app?

You either need to pay to upgrade your subscription to get more than 5 cameras
or
Set up a separate Arlo Account. Add the new base station and cameras to that account. Grant access to those cameras to your first account. Login as your first account and you'll have all cameras visible with most of the features to control them if you check the box at the bottom of the Grant Access screen "Allow Access Rights"
