Drocks,
I recall NETGEAR having a position on this. Here is what they have to say:
"Mount your Arlo camera at least 7 feet (2.1 meters) above the floor or ground, angle it slightly downward, and place it within 10-15 feet (3.0-4.6 meters) of where motion is expected."
Regards,
Dave

I like the lower ranges if the camera is hardened or protected.... BUT, for Arlo I use about 8 feet.
The height is sort of a balance between getting a good face shot ( esp if they wear baseball caps ) and putting the camera out of normal reach.
( use to install cameras for security )
But, I also recommend a short tether of 6" on the arlo camera if you use a ball mount... from the mount to the threaded hole on camera ( 1/4-20 bolt )
So if it is knocked, it wont fall to the ground.

The more secure mount is a threaded mount over the half ball and/or table mount
But I would recommend using a temp mount ( half ball / one screw ) till you are sure it is a good location before mounting a threaded mount which can use 3 or 4
