Hi,

I have 4 Arlo Pro cameras, not Arlo Pro 2. Recently I subscribed to the arlo smart service.

But I can't get Activity zones to work properly. I've tried everything you could imagine, but the camera will just ignore.

What I have done:

  • Created a new mode, instead of using the default Armed
  • Added one camera to it.
  • Went to camera config
  • Created an activity zone

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, after all the wording for that feature in the app is very poor. It not only doesn't explain properly, but says something that to me it seems impossible so far: Highlight areas in your camera's view where you want to receive or ignore motion and sound alerts.

At least on my app, once highlight a area on the picture, there's no option to receive or ignore. It just lets me create the area and rename it.

Can I get some help please ?

Are the cameras on battery or AC power ?

To be clear, a zone is an inclusion area within that box. ANything outside of the box is excluded. Yes, the wording is poor.

It is connected to power, I did it even after reading their document were it states it should work on battery: https://kb.arlo.com/000056589/How-do-I-set-up-the-Arlo-Smart-cloud-activity-zones

To give it a little bit of more context, as you can see in the picture, I’m trying to ignore movements on the street.

You do have some street in both zones although not much. Would you post a link to a typical video so we can see what you're seeing?

Answering the questions: @jguerdat

Yes cameras were connected to power.

I do have some street on the cameras, but that’s the point os activity zones right ? Ignoring zones that you do not want to get notifications.

At the end of the day, I had to accept the bitter truth: Arlo is a scam.

You buy expensive hardware and end up with a half baked solution.

If anybody ever reads this, just don’t waste more of your money on this piece of crap.

I found my solution, and I don’t mind paying a monthly subscription for something that won’t let me down. This solution answer by the name of NEST Cameras.

NEST Cameras are everything this piece of garbage will never be. That being said, I’m done with Arlo and netgear.

Ps.: Picture attached to give Arlo a reference of what activity zones are supposed to be.

I have 1 NEST camera.  I just bought Arlo Pro 2 with 3 cameras.  Camera visual quality and functioning is good.   I like the feature of being able to record on my own hardware.  However, I too am facing the same issues with activity zones as well some other issues.  The Arlo App is really bad,  a non-intuitive piece of garbage when compared to NEST.  I think I will return it and go back to NEST>
