Recording in the Arlo Cloud require a subscription.
You can purchase a VMB4540 or VMB5000 smarthub, and connect the Pro 5S camera to that. Then you can use the direct access to local storage feature (which does not require a subscription). While many people do that, there are a lot of limitations - one big one is that the local recordings cannot be viewed from a PC.

Limitations include
- recordings can only be accessed in the app, not the web browser (my.arlo.com)
- recordings can only be accessed from the primary account (not "friend" accounts)
- there are no thumbnails, recordings need to be downloaded to your phone before you see anything
- no ability to make manual recordings or take snapshots
- remote access requires router setting changes that many find difficult, and which do not work with some internet service providers.
