I have gone through all the recommendations and settings several times now with no luck.

But you haven't said what "all the recommendations" were that you tried. The usual suggestions of making sure you're on the 2.4GHz band as well as trying the camera reset procedure would have been tried but we don't know that.

I made the recommended changes to my iPhone, made sure I selected a 2.4 ghz network, reset the sync, put phone and camera close to the router, went through the steps to add a camera, it would chime after the QR code but would not go any further.

When you reset the camera did you hold the button for >15 seconds until the LED started flashing amber? Have you tried using the web client which sometimes works better? my.arlo.com
