Will VMB5000 allow for the Pro 4 camera clips to be viewable in the app or is a subscription needed to be able to view them in the app?  I don't really need them saved to the cloud instead of local storage.

See this:

There are several limitations:

  • recordings only available from the app (not my.arlo.com)
  • recordings only available from the primary account (not friend accounts)
  • no ability to make manual recordings or take snapshots
  • no thumbnails - everything needs to be downloaded to the phone to view.
  • remote access requires router setting changes that some find difficult, and which won't work with some internet service providers

In addition, if you see "feed" in the app, you will find that it is somewhat awkward to get to the videos.

Note that the subscription includes other features - including activity zones when the camera is running on battery or solar.

I have my current bridge configured to store locally, it is the VMB4000R3, but it will not capture clips from my Pro 4 cameras.  I suppose my question should have been phrased, will upgrading my bridge to the VMB5000 allow the Pro 4 to also store locally like my older Pro 1 does.

No the 4000 Base will only store the arlo triggered recordings to the USB, viewing requires removing the USB and viewing on a pc.

The arlo app only views cloud storage recordings not base/hub recordings.

Pro1 cameras have the free 7days cloud storage service but not the pro4.

To use a 5000 hub with the arlo app you go to the hub settings menu, select the storage device and download the recordings to the mobile device to view.

That’s not true, my older cameras create clips from motion triggers, regardless of which camera generates the trigger, and they are viewable in the app and on the web without and additional service plan.  What I am asking is there a way for the same to happen with the Pro 4 camera by updating the bridge.  I am not interested in an additional plan for cloud storage.  I just want the system to work as it does with the older cameras, receive a trigger from motion detected on any camera and record a clip from one of several other camera that are viewable in the app.

As mentioned before the arlo mobile and web app only shows the recordings stored from the arlo cloud storage service.

Your older cameras were bundled with the arlo free 7days cloud storage service, this feature ended for future arlo camera models after the pro2 camera in 2018.

The pro4 camera gets a trial subscription period but requires a paid subscription plan when the trial expires, some regions get a single month, some get 3 months.

If you operate the pro4 camera without a subscription you can only live view the camera and get motion  alerts. Smart detections are a cloud service so not available.
