One option is to: 

1. delete your wife's friend account
2. change the username (email address) of your account to your wife's
3. create a new friend account with your username/email
4. send a new invitation

Perhaps a bit simpler if you get a temporary third free email address:

1. change your wife's account username to the temporary email
2. change your account name to your wife's
3. change the temporary email account to yours

If you take the first path, don't delete your account my mistake, as that will effect your subscription.
