Has anyone tried connecting a Hard drive USB device with USB 3.0 for local storage? Stats say to use USB 2.0. or type A connection. Only difference between 3.0 and 2.0 is data transfer speed. Is there a data transfer speed restriction for the base unit?

USB 3 offers no advantage since the USB 2 has plenty of speed overhead for recording many cameras at once. That's also why 100Mbps Ethernet is used for hubs/bases - there's no advantage to going faster.
