I am looking for help trying to find an inexpensive laptop that will support the HEVC to viewing of the library and the videos.  I tried to download the HEVC on my laptop, but it is not supported and it really messed up my media player, so I had to restore back to get things back to normal.  I downloaded VLC, which will play the videos and there is sort of zoom (however, it isn't clear) and audio I can't hear even at 125%.  If you have any ideas on the make and model, it would be great!  I am also getting a Pro 5 camera, so I definitely need it.  I have had an old camera VMC3131, which I don't have any issues viewing the library and videos.   I hope someone can help.

Intel and AMD both added hardware support for HEVC in 2015 (6th gen processors and later), so any current Windows laptop using those processors will have support for it.  I suspect current Windows laptops using ARM processors would also have support for it, but there might be some that don't.  Mac HEVC support started in 2017 (with the release of High Sierra), so any new Mac will also play HEVC.

It is possible you'd need to get the HEVC extension from Microsoft - available in their app store for $0.99.  Though the HP laptops I've purchased over the past couple of years all had that extension pre-installed.  You should enable hardware acceleration in the browser, since most won't play HEVC unless that is enabled.  (If you use FireFox, you'll also need to switch to Edge or Chrome).

Thank you for your help.  I do have that information, however, I searched which computer will allow the extension and the info I find says to make sure the driver is listed that supports the HEVC / H.265.  I checked on some yesterday and checking the ones by searching off the 'run' bar typing in dxdiag and clicking on display then check the drivers info to see if H.265 or HEVC is listed.  I can't find any that is why I reached out.  However, like you said, many should except this extension.  My dell is windows 10, and it does't work with HEVC.  Really messed up my media player to where I had to restore back two days to fix.  I don't know enough about the verbiage 'Intel 6th gen Core processor or later or equiv. AMD processors' , and Intel Kaby Lake or newer will work,

Right click on "this PC" and you will get details on your system.  Let us know what you see in the processor field there.

This is a a first generation i5 processor that Intel launched back in 2010.  HEVC didn't exist back then, so your laptop definitely doesn't support it.

Any Intel/AMD laptop built in 2018 or later will have HEVC support.
