My 3 months free subscription for my Pro3 is about to expire. Will I need to purchase a subscription in order to record video after it expires? I heard that we could still record video if we install a USB into the base station... not sure if this is true. If this is not the case, I'll return the pro3 cameras and stick with the pro2 that has the free 7 day recordings.

It is hard to know if this is true without knowing what you heard and where you heard it.
We also don't know exactly what you want, so this is just a random suggestion.
You could start here:
What is Direct Storage Access and how do I use it?
