If your router lets you disable 5 ghz wifi, then try doing that before onboarding.  Also make sure that the WiFi network is set to WPS2-PSK (AES) encryption.

 

If you are trying to onboard with your phone, you might also try onboarding from a PC (my.arlo.com).
