Motion sensitivity and distance

When sensitivity is turned down on the cameras, is it also decreasing the range of detection from the camera, or is the range unaffected by the sensitivity adjustment?

Sensitivity = distance. Thus, the lower the sensitivity, the closer the subject has to be to be able to be detected.
