Disabling SSID broadcast

Hi,

cannot find the way to disable the SSID broadcast.

There are posts since 2015 about this issue and no one did anything to fix this awful security flaw?

To be clear, the only risk is that someone can more easily see that an Arlo base station is in the vicinity.  Whether that is "awful" or not depends on your point of view.  Many people want to make it obvious that there is video surveillance (using the stickers inside the box, putting the cameras in plain sight, etc).  Others want to conceal it.

 

Blocking broadcast of the SSID does not improve network security (and it is still possible to find the SSID even if it is not broadcase).  It might have a negative impact on camera battery life (though how much is hard to say).

 

IMO a better solution would be to use a random SSID that doesn't include "Arlo".

Each and every wireless device has the possibility to block SSID broadcast except Arlo.

Having the possibility to choose is everything but bad.

Just develop a bit of strings and allow customers to choose.
