I have read through other discussions and can’t say I found an answer. On old app I could have a geofence and schedule at the same time. Arm away when I’m away from home. Standby when home except it is armed from 9 pm to 5am. New app no luck. Arlo support gave me 4 different automations and none worked. Last call they told me geofence and scheduling doesn’t work together on new app. That sounds ridiculous that Arlo went backwards. This doesn’t seem hard and it should work if anyone figured it out.

The basic idea is that you

  • schedule mode changes between Arm Home and Standby,
  • that you switch to Arm Away when you all leave
  • that you switch to Arm Home or Standby when the first person returns

These four automations illustrate:

Note the enable lists (right below the automation names).  Those specify the modes in which the automations run, and it is important to get them right.

There are two issues I've found with this.

One is conceptual - you have to choose a specific mode to switch to when you return.  You can't tell it to switch to Standby during the day and Arm Home at night.  So you will still need to sometimes manually switch the mode when you return.

The second is that the geofencing triggers aren't completely reliable.  In my own case, the "Arrive" automation doesn't always trigger when I use the Arm Home, Standby enable list you see above.  If I change that to "always enabled" it does work reliably.  That is ok for me, since I am only using my own phone for geofencing.  But if you have multiple phones, then then using "Always Enabled" results in the automation triggering whenever anyone comes home (even if someone else is already home).

Thanks. It’s been working with the automations you have me.
