So did they remove the option to erase the SD card or what? I cannot find it now. I have a bunch of videos that I would just as soon delete. I guess they’re not getting anything since they will be over written, but still…I don’t appreciate functionality being taken away from me.

You erase it by reformatting it - that control still exists at the bottom of the local storage page in the web ui.  In the iOS app, you press on "Storage Status" , and you'll find both eject and format controls there.

It's still there. I suggest you check the manual to double-check where it is.
