I just spoke to customer service and I was told I have to pay to upgrade software for my Arlo Pro 3 cameras which I’ve had for the last 3.5 years since I purchased them

No you didn't, as they don't charge for firmware updates.  Likely you googled for a phone number and reached a scammer.

If you gave them any passwords or credit card info, you should take action (changing passwords, contacting your credit card company and getting a new card, etc).
