I recently added several Pro 5s cameras and was forced to upgrade the software.  Now, my Arlo Pro 3 cameras are not showing events in the feed.

My setup:

4540 hub with external usb for local storage

No Arlo Secure subscription

several Arlo 5 Pro S cameras - showing events successfully in feed

several Arlo 3 Pro cameras - NOT showing events in feed

several Arlo 2 Pro cameras (EOL'd) - showing events successfully

My older Arlo 2 Pros are showing events successfully in the feed but not my Arlo 3's?  I have removed and re-added devices to no avail.  I checked the local storage and events are being recorded fine - but not showing up in the app.

Is this a bug or a way for Netgear/Arlo to get me to pay for a subscription gimmick?  Suffice it to say that I am not happy with this company after this recent 'planned obsolescence' in our cameras.

Netgear/Arlo

Just to get this out of the way...

Netgear spun off Arlo back in 2018.  They do not have any stock in Arlo - it was all distributed to Netgear stockholders.

So Netgear literally has nothing to do with Arlo anymore.

Although the KB says that local recordings show up in Feed, that appears to be incorrect.  Not sure if that is a bug, or if that is a mistake in the KB article.

You are seeing the Pro 2 videos in feed, because you still have 7 days of free cloud storage for those cameras.  I am thinking the Pro 5s cameras are still in the trial, so have cloud storage.

I believe what you need to do to access Pro 3 recordings is

To access your Direct Storage Access recordings in the Arlo Secure App:

  1. Launch the Arlo Secure App.
  2. Tap Devices.
  3. Tap the ...
  4. Tap the settings wheel for your SmartHub.
  5. Tap Storage Settings.
  6. Navigate the Arlo Feed to view the last 30 days of video recordings.

@StephenB  - thanks for the steps.  It does work and I can access the recordings.  This seems like a usability issue if a user has to go through all these steps to see their recordings.  Why not just add those to the main feed like before?

Good question.  Personally I think it should work that way.  Though there is some duplication for folks with a subscription, and in those situations perhaps the feed should be filtered by default (only showing local videos for unsubscribed cameras).

Overall, IMO,  the user experience with direct access to local recordings is poor.

My local recordings used to show under "feed."   With the latest update, I have to navigate to the storage card and make a few clicks to find the recordings.  Arlo is doing everything they can to force a subscription. It's a chicken S*&*t way of selling a product.  They are trying to unwind the features that lead me to buy the cameras in the first place.  The official phrase is " Bait and Switch."  Reeks of Quicken.

Arlo has always called local recordings a backup solution. Yes, they certainly want you to buy a plan but they're not forcing you to - it's your choice.

True, but I personally think the local recordings for unsubscribed cameras should show up in Feed.

The user experience for direct access to local storage is poor - while in some cases that might lead to the user getting a subscription, in many others the user just sells the Arlo system and switches to a different company.
